The Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) recently concluded a statewide compliance operation to check those people and businesses operating in a number of sectors of the security industry were appropriately licensed.
The proactive operation identified businesses and individuals advertising their security services, with inspectors spot-checking to ensure a valid licence was held to perform the work advertised.
The focus was on locksmiths, building and on-site security, security equipment installers, electricians and crowd controllers.
As a result of the investigation, six enforcement actions were taken by the OFT, with one investigation still ongoing.
According to the OFT, the operation revealed a non-compliance rate of 9% across the state. This was an improved result on a similar compliance operation in 2015, which showed a 17.5% non-compliance rate.
The OFT will continue to conduct operations to ensure those working within the security industry are complying with the law. Further information about breaches and penalties can be found on the OFT website.
