Australian security technology integrator PMT Security Systems has stepped up its expansion into New Zealand, opening a permanent Auckland office following the completion of its first major project in the country.
The company has also joined the New Zealand Security Association (NZSA), as it looks to establish a larger local team and customer base across retail, commercial and critical infrastructure markets.
The Auckland operation, located in Eden Terrace, will serve as a base for PMT’s New Zealand project delivery, customer engagement and technical services.
The expansion follows PMT’s appointment earlier this year of Deb Perano as New Zealand Country Manager. Perano spent 20 years with a major corporate retailer in Australia and New Zealand, including roles as Group Head of Loss Prevention and Head of Operations in New Zealand.
PMT has also recently completed a significant security technology rollout for one of New Zealand’s leading national retailers, although the customer has not been named.
PMT Security CEO Adrian Smith said the company wanted to build a permanent New Zealand operation rather than service the market remotely from Australia.
“We’re not approaching the market simply as an Australian company servicing New Zealand from across the Tasman,” Smith said.
“We’re investing in local leadership, local people and a permanent presence, while bringing the scale, technical capability and experience PMT has developed over more than four decades.”
The company says its New Zealand portfolio has already expanded beyond its initial retail project, with work now spanning retail, commercial and critical infrastructure customers.
Perano said the new office would give PMT the capacity to grow its operations and provide more consistent support for customers with complex and multi-site environments.
“In just six months we’ve moved from a single flagship project to a growing portfolio spanning retail, commercial and critical infrastructure and the Auckland office lets us scale more efficiently across the country,” she said.
Perano said customers were increasingly looking beyond individual security products towards integrated technology environments that could deliver broader operational benefits.
“Customers increasingly need partners who understand their businesses, can work across multiple locations, can explain how to get the best out of technology ecosystems, and can provide innovation and consistency from the initial design and rollout through to ongoing service and support,” she said.
PMT Security Systems NZ Limited has also become a member of the NZSA, New Zealand’s peak industry body for security providers and professionals.
Smith said the membership would form part of PMT’s efforts to establish itself as a long-term participant in the country’s security sector.
Founded in 1979, PMT provides integrated video surveillance, access control, identity and biometric systems, alarms, secure networking and critical communications technology.
The company operates across sectors including retail, commercial property, logistics, critical infrastructure, data centres and government.
