Gigamon’s 2025 Hybrid Cloud Security Survey finds deep observability and cloud recalibration top of mind amid rising AI-fuelled cyber risks
As artificial intelligence reshapes the cybersecurity threat landscape, 91 percent of global Security and IT leaders say they are actively reassessing their hybrid cloud risk strategies, according to Gigamon’s newly released 2025 Hybrid Cloud Security Survey.
The study—now in its third year—surveyed more than 1,000 security leaders across six countries, including Australia, and reveals how AI-generated attacks, surging data volumes, and concerns around public cloud environments are placing unprecedented strain on cyber defence systems.
Australia has emerged as a key flashpoint, with 53 percent of organisations reporting a data breach in the past 12 months—a 17 percent increase year-on-year. AI is a major contributor to this trend, with over half of Australian respondents (56 percent) reporting attacks on their large language model (LLM) deployments and 58 percent observing a spike in AI-powered ransomware.
“Security teams are struggling to keep pace with the speed of AI adoption and the growing complexity and vulnerability of public cloud environments,” said David Land, vice president, APAC at Gigamon. “Deep observability is becoming a strategic imperative—offering the visibility needed to counter these sophisticated threats.”
Compromises and Complexity in the Cloud
The report reveals that the hybrid cloud model, once seen as an efficient and scalable solution, is now riddled with trade-offs. In Australia, 94 percent of security leaders admitted to making compromises in securing their cloud infrastructure. Key challenges include the lack of clean, high-quality data for secure AI workloads (46 percent) and limited visibility across environments, particularly in East-West network traffic (47 percent).
Globally, growing unease around the public cloud is also prompting a strategic shift. While the public cloud was once embraced during the rapid digital acceleration of the pandemic, 70 percent of respondents now see it as the riskiest part of their IT environment. As a result, the same proportion is considering repatriating sensitive data to private infrastructure, while 54 percent say they are reluctant to run AI workloads in public cloud platforms due to concerns around intellectual property protection.
Visibility Moves to the Forefront
In the face of increasingly agile AI-powered adversaries, security teams are prioritising visibility as a critical enabler for proactive threat detection and response. The majority of respondents (64 percent) have made real-time threat monitoring their top focus for the next 12 months. However, 55 percent say their current tools fall short of providing the visibility needed to detect and respond to breaches effectively.
Enter deep observability—a capability that combines traditional MELT (metrics, events, logs, and traces) data with telemetry derived directly from the network. According to the survey, 89 percent of Security and IT leaders now see deep observability as essential for managing hybrid cloud risk, and 83 percent of Australian respondents report the topic is now being discussed at the board level.
“Boards are waking up to the need for comprehensive, real-time visibility into network activity,” said Land. “Deep observability empowers organisations to identify blind spots, improve their cyber posture, and future-proof their AI and hybrid cloud strategies.”

Gigamon’s 2025 Hybrid Cloud Security Survey was conducted by research firm Vitreous World between February 21 and March 7, 2025. The online survey captured insights from 1,021 IT and security professionals across Australia, France, Germany, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
