Unlocking seamless travel: Entrust survey reveals travellers’ desire for biometric innovations

International travel is evolving, and the latest Seamless Travel Experience Survey by Entrust—a global leader in identity-centric security solutions—highlights a growing demand for technology-driven solutions that combine efficiency with security. Surveying 1,750 frequent flyers across G20 nations, the study outlines global preferences for cutting-edge innovations like biometric corridors and remote identity verification.

Biometric Technology: The Traveler’s Choice

The data underscores a clear preference for biometric solutions, particularly among Australian travellers. An impressive 94% of Australians said they’d embrace biometric corridors if they could cut airport wait times by 20–30%. Globally, India leads the charge, with 88% favouring these technologies, marking a worldwide shift toward frictionless and secure border control systems.

Addressing Pain Points: Customs and Immigration

Despite advancements in digital check-ins and airline apps, the survey reveals that customs (87%) and immigration (81%) remain the most challenging steps for Australians. Travellers worldwide are urging the transformation of border processes, particularly electronic visa applications and security screenings.

Balancing Innovation with Privacy

While many travellers are enthusiastic about biometrics, concerns remain over technological failures and data privacy. In Australia, 40% of respondents flagged system reliability as a top worry, while 24% emphasised the importance of transparency in data protection. These concerns highlight the need for secure, user-centric systems that build trust.

The Road Ahead: Advanced Solutions for Seamless Travel

Electronic visas, e-passports, and remote identity verification emerged as the most desirable innovations for streamlining international travel. For Australians, efficient electronic visa application processes are seen as a game-changer.

“Entrust’s findings reveal a strong global appetite for secure, frictionless travel experiences powered by biometrics,” says Gordon Wilson, Vice President of Identity Verification at Entrust. “Our goal is to redefine borderless travel with trusted digital identity solutions that simplify journeys without compromising on security.”

As the world embraces smarter travel solutions, the industry stands at the crossroads of convenience, security, and trust—ensuring the future of travel is as seamless as travelers demand.
