Recipients of the 2024 Australian Security Industry Awards were recognised last night at a special function attended by over 300 industry leaders at the Park Hyatt Hotel Melbourne.

Organised by the Australian Security Industry Association Limited, the evening incorporated three separate awards programs (the Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence, the Outstanding Security Performance Awards and the Australian Security Medals Foundation Awards) to provide an opportunity to celebrate the many exceptional individuals and organisations in the security industry.

“Tonight’s recipients reflect the increasingly important contribution Australia’s security industry makes in helping keep our community safe. They include individuals who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and organisations at the forefront of implementing innovative new security technologies and solutions,” says John Fleming, General Manager, ASIAL.

Among those recognised include Faraz Tahir (posthumously) and Muhammad Taha (injured), who were awarded the prestigious Australian Security Medal for Valour for their exceptional bravery during the tragic Bondi Junction Westfield mass stabbing attack in April.

Damian McMeekin, Chair of the Australian Medals Foundation Awards said, “The year has been a difficult one, especially with the fatal event and wounding that is reflected in the Foundation’s two awards for valour and in more than 20 awards to members of the security sector who contributed to saving lives through the application of first aid. Service, selflessness and true professionalism were also reflected in the large number of nominations we received, for both valour and saving lives, by so many dedicated members of the sector managing so many issues through the community.”

Professor Martin Gill, Director, World Excellence Awards said, “Once again the calibre of entries was exceptional. This year, the Outstanding Security Performance Awards provide an extra spotlight on those achieving a high level of performance in different areas of security in Australia; the winners of each category will represent Australia in the Global awards – alongside the winners from other countries – that will take place in early 2025.”
