ASIAL Releases New Security Insider Podcast Series

Episode 1 – Safety in numbers: Australia’s private security guard force and counterterrorism now available!

Designed to help engage with the wider security community and industry to help gain key insights on specific topics with guest speakers and discussions, ASIAL. Australia’s peak body for security professionals, has launched its new Security Insider Podcast series.

In the first episode of a new Podcast series from ASIAL, Dr Anthony Bergin, Senior Analyst with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) and Don Williams, thought leader and independent security consultant co-author’s of a recently released paper titled Safety In Numbers, looks at the role of private security in Australia’s counter terrorism arrangements. They are also joined by Bryan de Caires, Chief Executive Officer of ASIAL and John Bigelow of Security Solutions.

About the guest speakers

Dr Bergin is a senior analyst at ASPI and a senior research fellow at the National Security College, Australian National University.

For 20 years Dr Bergin served as an academic at the Australian Defence Force Academy. From 1991-2003 he was the Director of the Australian Defence Studies Centre. He served for four years as an Adjunct Reader in Law at the ANU, where he taught international law. Dr Bergin has written extensively on a wide range of national security and maritime issues in academic journals, books, and ASPI reports. He is a regular media commentator and author of several hundred op-eds for The Australian, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald and Australian Financial Review.

Donald Williams holds qualifications in security management as well as risk, project and resource management. He is a certified Protection Professional and Registered Security Professional. He is a member ASIS International , the Institute of Explosives Engineers and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. He is the author if numerous papers, books and security standards.
