NEWS RELEASE FROM FLIR SYSTEMS
FLIR Systems announces 10 year warranty for security products

FLIR, the world leader in thermal imaging cameras, has unveiled the world’s leading warranty program for many of its fixed mounted security and surveillance products. FLIR has extended the warranty on the camera to three years and 10 years warranty on the uncooled microbolometer detector for fixed mounted security and surveillance thermal imaging cameras. Thermal imaging cameras are widely used for security and surveillance, maritime, automotive, predictive maintenance, R&D, machine vision and many more applications.

FLIR says it fully understands that its cameras and technology form a crucial component in the security of critical assets and people depend on this.

Roger Christiansz, Managing Director, FLIR Systems Australia: ‘We build not only the most advanced but also the most reliable thermal imaging cameras on the market. In order to make existing and potential thermal imaging camera users aware of this, FLIR Systems has confidently improved its warranty policy.’ ‘If a problem should occur within this timeframe FLIR Systems will replace the uncooled microbolometer detector free of charge or, depending on the case, even replace the entire thermal imaging camera,’ he said.

The following warranty conditions apply:

* Af and Apt-Series thermal imaging cameras are not included in the extended warranty policy.

** The PT-602CZ is not included in the extended warranty policy since it does not contain an uncooled microbolometer detector but a cooled detector.

In order to benefit from this warranty policy the owner of the FLIR thermal imaging camera needs to register his product at the FLIR Systems website. Registration needs to be done within 60 days of the purchase date. (www.flir.com/cs/warranty)

Roger Christiansz: ‘FLIR has been the world leaders in infrared for more than 50 years and highly regarded for its extremely reliable thermal imaging cameras.

‘By giving 10 years warranty on the uncooled microbolometer detector and up to three years on the entire product (model specific), we are showing our customers that we are confident and fully committed to deliver the best possible quality at the best price,’ he said.

FLIR Systems is able to do this as it manufactures most of its uncooled microbolometer detectors itself. The company has acquired the knowledge to do this in high volumes without suffering a drop in product quality.

The new policy is only valid for thermal imaging cameras that are purchased as from September 24, 2012.

About thermal imaging

Thermal imaging is the use of cameras constructed with specialty sensors that “see” thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible to the human eye because its wavelength is too long to be detected.

It’s the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Infrared allows us to see what our eyes cannot.

Thermal imaging cameras produce images of invisible infrared or “heat” radiation. Based on temperature differences between objects, thermal imaging produces a clear image. In contrast with other technologies, such as light amplification, thermal imaging needs no light whatsoever to produce an image on which the smallest of details can be seen.

Thermal imaging provides full visibility irrespective of the prevailing light level and weather conditions. It can see in total darkness, in the darkest of nights, through light fog, in the far distance, through smoke and is able to detect anyone hiding in the shadows.
